Extra-curricular activities, whether sporting or artistic, encourage and complement our students’ overall development.
To this end, Mater Salvatoris School offers a range of activities which turn leisure time into a creative space for personal enjoyment, through learning different skills.
At the end of morning lessons, students have an area where they are free to do the following activities:
- Music Academy +
Mater Salvatoris School is an
Elementary and Intermediate Level Approved Music Teaching Centre, where students have the chance to live out and develop their musical calling by learning an instrument.
Musical specialisms:
- Piano
- Violin
- Viola
- Chello
- Double Bass
- Oboe
- Clarinet
- French Horn
- Dance +
Allows personal expressive and communicative abilities to develop. During the year, students learn one of the main Spanish regional dances which have shaped our nation’s rich cultural heritage.
- Choir +
Our students’ passion for the Choir stands out in the Music School. Directed by Adrián Cobo, it gives our students the chance to work on their voices by doing an activity which encourages discipline and perseverance, as well as creating precious moments singing at the main School Feast Days.
- Fun Sport +
In addition to PE lessons, once a week Primary School students and those in the first two years of Secondary School participate in an internal Fun Sport competition which promotes sporting values such as team spirit, the desire to improve, fair play…
- Drama +
The drama workshop aims to develop students’ expressive and creative potential. During the year they prepare for the stage an original play or an adaptation of one of the universal classics.
- Flamenco Dance +
This art is used as a tool for learning and experimentation on both a cultural and a motor skills level. Coordination and rhythm are given increasing importance as this activity is practised, and sensitivity towards music and dance culture is also developed.
- Classical Ballet +
Through ballet, personal growth, self-esteem and creative expression are all improved. As well as practising coordination, agility in movement and balance, students acquire an especially elegant way of moving their bodies and learn rules about order and discipline which they apply almost effortlessly in other settings, whether that be their studies or other activities.
- Cooking & Crafts +
On Friday afternoons, School students have the chance to attend cooking and craft workshops which encourage creativity and enhance their ability to communicate and express themselves.
- Rhythmic Gymnastics +
An activity which has been welcomed with great enthusiasm by our girls. In it, they elaborate on dances they have previously learnt and progressively educate the body. This sporting discipline does demand some body work, but is done in a fun way.
- Judo +
This is a competitive sport which in 1964 was included in the Olympics for the first time. UNESCO has declared it the best sport for children from infancy to 14 years of age as it offers a complete education: developing psychomotor skills and relationships with others and using fun and games as key elements.
- Skating +
Skating is a comprehensive sport ideal for psychomotor development, especially balance and coordination. It requires interaction with classmates and group play, thereby encouraging integration and socialising. It is a lot of fun and can be practised in different forms: hockey, figure skating, speed skating, etc. It is a very safe sport as full protection is used and it is practised under the instruction of qualified professionals.
- Painting +
This activity aims to encourage the development of creativity and the capacity for self-expression in a fun way through learning about different materials and techniques such as charcoal drawing, watercolours, tempera painting, oil painting…
- Sports Skills +
The goal of this activity is to allow Pre-School students to start acquiring a taste for movement and physical activity from an early age, and to gain coordination and control of their bodies through sport, all adapted to the characteristics of their own age group.
- Wellness +
Doing aerobics or Pilates exercises helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle and contributes to acquiring greater flexibility, improved skills, agility and motor coordination.
For those students who are sports enthusiasts, the School offers the chance to join one of the federated teams and participate in inter-school competitions.
Training sessions always take place during the school day (from 1:30pm to 3:15pm).
